After switching to Worldpay, family-owned The Central realizes cost savings, faster terminals and greater transactions visibility

The Central is a family-owned, multi-award-winning gastropub, restaurant, café and performance venue located in the heart of Navan town centre in Ireland.

Lack of support and slow payments terminals mandate a change

According to Trina Mooney, accounts manager and office controller at The Central, “The payments terminals from our previous provider were extremely slow. To make matters even more frustrating, we had no direct, day-to-day contact to reach out to when we needed assistance. It was not a good experience for us at all. We definitely needed to make a change.”

The Central’s list of essential payments improvements to be undertaken included fast card terminals, reliable and durable handheld devices that could be easily cleaned in case of spills, and a dedicated support contact.

Enter Worldpay

Trina notes that she became aware of Worldpay through The Central’s affiliation with the Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI), a Worldpay partner.

“We’ve been using Worldpay for a couple of years now, and the difference is truly amazing,” says Trina. “We’ve been able to cut our expenses, and our in-store payment terminals are much faster. The resulting increase in the speed of transactions has helped provide our guests with an overall positive customer experience.

“Additionally, whenever I need to contact my Worldpay relationship manager, I always receive prompt, helpful answers. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, highly supportive and always willing to assist.”

The Central uses Worldpay Dashboard to access a complete view of their business and payments activity, allowing them to interact with assorted information and data in real time – from card sales to settlements and invoices.

“I use Worldpay’s portal daily. It gives me all the information I need, and also provides full visibility into our payments,” states Trina.

Virtual Terminal and Pay by Link

The Central also takes advantage of Worldpay’s Virtual Terminal and Pay by Link payments capabilities.

Virtual Terminal allows The Central to leverage a web-based payment application that makes it possible to accept credit and debit card payments without a traditional credit card terminal.

Additionally, the Pay by Link solution allows the eatery’s customers to easily pay using a credit or debit card through a secure URL provided via email, text or other communication channel. Once a customer clicks on the link, they’re directed to a secure page to complete their purchase using their preferred payment method.

Positive Worldpay experience

As she reflects on her overall Worldpay experience, Trina eagerly shares that her implementation and on-boarding process was seamless with no problems. “The terminals were installed very quickly and with no down time.
